Global Training Interaction Director Sidney L. Poe chose this manual to assist with training for pastors, ministers, leaders, and church members to be effective volunteers in disaster preparation, relief, and recovery.
No matter where you live there is a chance some type of disaster or emergency can (or at some time will) occur. Whether it s a flood, fire, hurricane, a chemical spill forcing an evacuation, active shooter scenario, or your child getting a bloody nose stuff happens.
The question is ... what are YOU gonna do about it?
IT'S A DISASTER!... helps families and businesses be aware, be prepared, and have a plan for most types of emergencies and disasters. The 266-page paperback provides quick-reference instructional bullets in 2-color format. It is not written to alarm people, rather it suggests tips on what to think about and do before, during and after specific types of scenarios, as well as how to administer basic first aid.
A majority of the data was compiled from various publications provided by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and FEMA, the CDC, Public Safety Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada and others.
Some updates in the revised 5th Edition include Active Shooter safety tips (contributed by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency), Power Loss Mitigation (tips on generators), Civil Disturbances or Civil Unrest, moved nuke appendix up into Terrorism topic, new First Aid topics (e.g. flu, C. diff, Hands-only CPR) and much more.
If more people would take personal responsibility and learn how to prepare themselves and their loved ones, it could alleviate some problems, fear and stress in the U.S. and Canada.
